Cars and dogs, an age-old mismatch.

Open gates, loose leashes, stray animals, speeding cars… being a pet parents comes with a slight touch of paranoia over any danger. One’s got to see them coming to be ready for them, after all! When preventing isn’t possible (for 2 eyes aren’t always enough to watch over them), a bit of luck and a good medical team is exactly what you want on your side.

For example, this little one is named Leia. Beyond the cute nose and that eye that makes our heart melt, what you see here are the consequences of running away from the nanny your adopted parents left you with while they were out on a trip.

As it turns out, Leia is a girl with a ton of energy (no surprise there, Beagles are quite known for that) who decided to go out for a walk without even asking her keepers first. The audacity is strong with this one! Unfortunately, however, said walk ended up being very, very short.

Just as she set paw on the street, Leia’s path crossed that of a moving car. Whether the driver couldn’t see her or just didn’t have enough time to slam on the brakes, the vehicle running over Leia seemed to be all but certain at that point.

Now, a whole lot of people truly believe that cats and dogs are total opposites, but we’re sure Leia’s reflexes have to be very much cat-like: not any dog would have managed to duck at the very last second like she did, sneaking under the car and between the tires. Nothing short from impressive, for sure, but not enough to come out without a scratch: her reflexes saved her life, but something metal from under the car still managed to leave an open cut across her forehead, reaching her right eye as well.

We don’t like playing down our patients’ ailments, but we just couldn’t help being weirded out by how (relatively) minor her injures were. We’ve all know endings not this happy on similar cases, haven’t we?

Leia’s wounds didn’t require much intervention from our part: some cleaning, a couple of stitches and a prescription later, she was all good to go back home. Proud to say she kept her eye, as well as our hearts.

50% Beagle. 50% Cat. 100% Lovely.
