Keep out of reach of children.

The inscription “keep out of reach of children” on countless products has a very good (and often obvious) reason to be there, doesn’t it? Well, today we’re here to argue that it also applies perfectly even if said children have 4 legs and are covered with fur.

See this adorable little furball? Her name is Pixie, a 2-year-old Pomeranian who couldn’t seem to stop vomiting for 2 days straight. Feeling down and entirely lacking her appetite, she came to our clinic, where we felt a small something in her abdomen that apparently caused some serious pain.

Now, we know how playful and restless Pomeranians can be and how much they love getting everyone’s attention, but Pixie isn’t your average case: to her, playing with her toys just wasn’t enough, not if she could eat them, instead! More so it they’re miniature cupcakes, apparently. Certainly, there’s a huge difference between eating a toy and actually being able to digest it, as Pixie soon learned.

When both the X rays and the ultrasound confirmed an abdominal obstruction due to an unknown object we got down to business and ran to the O.R.

Well, not Piexie. We had to carry her.

Pixie recovered with no problems and, a week after the extraction, found herself back home, happy and away from miniature pastries.

We were glad to meet her and tell her story. We’d love to see her again, but if it had to be under similar circumstances, maybe it’d be best we just stuck to asking for a postcard from her owners.
