Up-to-date vaccines, constant deworming, healthy food, regular baths, frequent exercise and claw trimming are all an important part of caring for our pets, but what about oral care?

This mischievous girl came to visit DogLover when her adoptive parents became concerned about her oral health and wanted us to do a dental cleaning. What you see here is a common, but quite serious, case of tartar. We see them often.
Many may not worry much about it, but it's exactly in this way that several periodontal diseases that can seriously affect our pets begin; without the appropriate care, infections can occur that make eating painful. And if our pets' defenses drop from not eating, those same infections can be severely complicated.
But it's not necessary to imagine the worst possible scenario to consider a professional dental cleaning for our pets, it's enough to think about the bad breath they get if they don't get one! One of the main signs of poor oral hygiene is a trully awful breath. So what exactly is a professional dental cleaning?

It is a common procedure performed under anesthesia. One by one, the teeth are deeply cleaned with professional ultrasound equipment to remove all signs of tartar in the patient's mouth. Just like when we go to the dentist! With the remains of tartar removed, the teeth are then polished and left looking just like you see here.
It may seem like something merely aesthetic at first glance, but as we said before, it is a procedure designed to help take care of our pets' health. It also making them look like out of a toothpaste commercial sure is a nice touch, though!

Strong white teeth, fresh breath and the freedom to continue eating and playing freely, there are plenty of reasons to smile like that!
